The world’s largest humanitarian disaster continues to claim victims as the war in Sudan continues. On Wednesday, 20 months into the conflict, the United States described the actions of one half of the conflict as genocide and imposed sanctions on its leader. Mohamed Hamdan Dahl, known as Hemedti, leads the RSD paramilitary forces that have been fighting the army for control of the country since April 2023, but the army is also accused of committing atrocities in a war that has claimed the lives of an estimated 150,000 people.
