Britain urged France to accelerate plans to intercept irregular immigrants in shallow waters, after one minister called “shocking” on Saturday when nearly 1,200 such.
John Healy, the Minister of Defense, said that the immigrants were captured by the smugglers along the French coast, while in reality it was a “taxi service”, and they urged Paris to start stopping migrants on boats near the coastal line.
The crossings of 1,194 on Saturday were the largest number of arrivals registered in one day this year, overcoming the previous record of 825 on May 21, which made the renewed pressure on the Sir Kerr Starmer government.
This year, on his way to registering a record in the Channels Crossings, where more than 13,000 people have arrived so far, an increase of 30 percent on this point last year, according to the analysis of the news agency’s data.
The Nigel Faraj Party to combat immigration in the United Kingdom is leading national opinion polls and claimed that the Prime Minister had lost control of irregular immigration through the channel.
Haley admitted on Sunday that Britain “lost control of its borders” under the last conservative government and urged France to do more to prevent immigrants to take the dangerous journey.
Healy referred to a declaration issued by Bruno Ritayo, French Interior MinisterIn February, he was seeking to change the law to allow the removal of migrants from boats in shallow waters.
“I think yesterday tells us that we have a really big problem, which is that a French police is unable to interfere and intercept boats when they are in shallow water,” he told Sky News.
Haley said that Britain now has “a new cooperation with the French and two agreement that will change the rules so that the police can interfere in water as well as on the beach.”
He said that the scenes were “somewhat horrific,” adding: “We have seen the smugglers fired elsewhere and wandering like a taxi to receive them.”
France said it saved 184 migrants on Saturday, only a small part of those who succeeded in reaching England on a quiet day late in the spring.
The Ministry of Interior said that “the French urge the necessary changes to their operational policy so that their naval forces can interfere in shallow waters as soon as possible.”
