Prime Minister Sir Kerr Starmer said on Saturday, after Iran threatened to attack the British bases in the region if they helped Israel, that the United Kingdom is transporting additional combat aircraft and other military aircraft to the Middle East.
Starmer said this step was “emergency” to support regional security, but it hinted that the United Kingdom also provided defense support to Israel in its confrontation with Iran.
“We are transporting assets to the area, including planes, to support the emergency in the area,” Starmer told reporters after asking them about Iranian threats.
“I will be clear regarding our duties, obligations and duties as prime minister … I will always make the right decisions of the United Kingdom and our allies.”
Starmer refused to discuss operational issues, but he said the situation was “intense” and “fast moving”.
