The Trump administration has moved to finish approximately 500 employees from Voice of America (VOA).

This step is the latest in President Donald Trump’s campaign to strip the director accused of the White House of “radical”.

Carrie Lake, the agency’s CEO, Acting, said the decision “will help reduce federal bureaucracy, improve the agency’s service, and save the American people more than their hard -winning money.” A union representing employees calls the illegal step in a statement to the New York Times.

Voa was created during World War II to counter Nazi propaganda, and became a major international broadcaster.

The port is supervised by the World Media Agency (USAAGM), which said that a total of 532 jobs will be canceled. Most of these employees are from VOA, which will be left with 108 employees, according to the court’s presentation.

In June, Lake announced that 639 employees will be completedAlthough the notifications were subsequently canceled due to the leaves of the leaves. Some employees also submitted lawsuits to prevent the termination.

The announcement came late on Friday night, a day after the judge’s referee that the Trump administration did not follow the appropriate procedures in its attempt to launch the Voa exit, Michael Abramovich. The judge also ordered a lake to sit for deposition, as it is interrogated by lawyers.

The lawsuit was filed by a group of agency staff trying to prevent attempts to close VOA.

“We find Lake’s ongoing attacks on our hateful agency,” they said in a statement to CBS News PPC.

“We look forward to depositing her to hear whether her plan to dismantle VOA has been done with the strict review process required by Congress. So far we have not seen any evidence of this, and thus we will continue to struggle for what we believe is our rights under the law.”

Most of Voa journalists have been on an administrative vacation since March, but some of the Persian speakers were called in, as the war broke out between Israel and Iran this summer.

The notifications will not also affect the journalists working in the Cuba Office Radio department, which broadcasts the news in Spanish language from Miami.

Critics say Trump’s attempts to strip Voa amount to an attack on freedom of the press, and affects America’s ability to exercise soft power abroad. The administration accused the outlet as a “anti -Trump” and “radical”.

Voa broadcasts TV, radio and digital content in about 50 languages.
