The accident took place late on Saturday in the Russian region of Biananc, which borders Ukraine.

“Unfortunately, there are seven deaths,” said the governor of Bianank Alexander Bogomaz in a post on Telegram.

“Thirty victims, including two children, were transferred to the medical facilities in the Bianank area,” Bogomaz said, adding that two were in serious condition.

The train driver was among those who were killed, according to Russian news agencies.

Rosavtodor, the Land Transport Agency in Russia, said the destructive bridge passed over the railway tracks where the train was traveling.

The railway vehicle – which was moving from the town of Kilimov to the Russian capital, Moscow – deviated from the tracks when it collided with the collapsed bridge near the village of Vegunichi, according to the news agency RIA.

The region is about 100 km (62 miles) from Russia’s borders with Ukraine.

Rescuers were looking for passengers trapped inside the damaged train, while residence places were established in emergency situations at a school in Vegunichi, Raya said.

The Moscow railway said, in a post on a telegram, that the bridge had collapsed “as a result of the illegal intervention in the transportation process.”

He did not explain more.

Ukraine has not yet committed to attending the talks on Monday, saying that it first needs to see Russian proposals, while US Senato member warned against Moscow that he would “severely strike” by new US sanctions.
