As the income tax deposit season has decreased, taxpayers should notice that the average number of days to treat recovered amounts has decreased significantly over the years, even with the value of the recovered amounts significantly.

In 2024, the recovered amounts of income tax were issued on average 17 days compared to 93 days seized in 2013, which represents a decrease of 81 % in the number of days that were made to issue. The value of the recovered amounts also increased by 474 % to 4,76,743 rupees in the fiscal year 25 compared to 83,008 rupees in the fiscal year 2014.

The sources indicate that this huge increase in tax recovered amounts and the low number of days to issue recovered amounts is due to improvements in tax management, especially with the adoption of digital infrastructure including online deposit and anonymous evaluation identity that allows faster and more accurate processing for income tax declarations.

“The introduction of pre -filled returns, automation to process recovery, TDS modifications in actual time, and online grievance compensation mechanisms led to a decrease in delay and improving taxpayers experience,” they also explained.

The recovered amounts of income tax increased as a percentage of the total tax collected to 17.6 % in the fiscal year 25 of 11.5 % in the 2014 fiscal year. The sources said: “Growth in the recovered amounts as a percentage of the total tax collected is a reflection to increase the formal nature and voluntary participation in the tax system,” adding that with the expansion of the taxpayer base and the tax payments and TDS mechanisms help Excess transfers become more common.

They said: “The increasing size and the share of the recovered amounts are not just a statistical trend, but it is a meaningful sign of the peripheral maturity.”

The total direct tax groups grew by 274 % to 27.02 rupees in the fiscal year 25 of 7.21 rupees in the fiscal year 2014. There was also a 133 % increase in the number of income tax declarations provided to 8.89 rupees in AY 2024-25 compared to 3.8 crows in the 2013 fiscal year.
