The Bicycle team in Israel, Prime Weiss, was excluded from an upcoming race in Italy due to concerns about the protests and the support of the Palestinians if the team will participate.
The decision of the Giro Dell’emilia race organizers comes after the recent Spanish demonstrators have disrupted and repeatedly, as Israel participated. The Spain government estimated that more than 100,000 people were in the streets in Madrid during the final stage this month.
In total, seven of the last 11 days of the race were cut in Voelta or stopped.
Bologna Advisor Roberta Li Calzi welcomed the decision to remove the team from one day race, which is scheduled to be held on October 4.
“We believe that sport is a means of global values to participate, fair competition and solidarity between people,” Calzi told me on Saturday. “We are comfortable to know that this opinion is shared by the race organization, which officially assured us today that the Israeli team will not participate in Giro Dell’emilia.
“I thank them for this sensitivity, which I think shares a large part of our society.”
The Canadian Israeli billionaire team filled Silvan Adams. On Thursday, it said on Thursday that it expects the team to be renamed.
There were also increasing calls to ban Israel from participating in various European sports competitions.
The demonstrators in Spain said that their actions were aimed at condemning the Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which killed tens of thousands of people. It was launched after the deadly Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
