Elderly British couple was released before Taliban This week after eight months in captivity.

Barbie Reynolds, 76, and her husband Peter Reynolds, 80, arrived in Qatar on Friday after months of negotiations between Qatar, Taliban and Britain.
The couple lived in Afghanistan For 18 years, they managed an educational charity.

Despite this ordeal, Barbie Reynolds said they would return to Afghanistan if they could. Both are Afghan citizens.

“God is good, as they say in Afghanistan,” she added at Kabul Airport.

Their families accused the Taliban of mistreating the couple, and urged the government to explain the reason for their arrest.

Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al -Khoula, the Minister of State in Qatar, said that he is grateful for “fruitful cooperation” between the United Kingdom and Duban in the release of the spouses.

The Taliban claimed that the spouses had broken Afghan laws without going into details.

“We are very grateful because at least, today is a very wonderful humanitarian day, and that they will be reunited with their families,” said Richard Lindsay, a British envoy to Afghanistan, adding that “it is clear that the (Afghanistan) authorities are here to determine the reason for their arrest.”

British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer He added, “I want to pay tribute to the vital role that Qatar plays, including the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tarim bin Hamad Al Thani, in securing their freedom.”
