The Star Trek and X-Men crossovers proved that Spock is capable of overpowering Wolverine

We live in an age of countless amazing fictional universes, as well as the inevitable debates between diverse fanbases: Which characters from one universe can beat out the best and brightest from the other? Sometimes, even famous actors have fun, like Matthew Oscar considered Isaac his Moon Knight than the Marvel Cinematic Universe show of the same name will likely outperform it Miguel “Spider-Man 2099” O’Hara from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The various debates about the supremacy of fandoms are arguably at their most entertaining when the franchises in question are so different that few would think to compare the two… like, for example, Marvel’s “X-Men” and “Star Trek” films . Surprisingly, the two iconic properties had already crossed streams in 1996, thanks to the “Star Trek/X-Men” crossover comic. Among many other things you’d expect from such an encounter, the comic reveals how Wolverine, the adamantium-adorned wrecking ball equipped with knife-knuckles, would fare in a one-on-one fight against Mr. Spock. The answer? Not very good.

As the X-Man and the Enterprise’s first officer come face-to-face in one of comic book’s most enduring traditions (i.e. a misunderstanding that causes a fight between two heroes before they team up), it may seem like a mismatch. After all, Wolverine has adamantium claws, an extremely powerful healing ability, and additional combat experience. However, Spock immediately proves that none of this means anything in the face of the Vulcan’s patented nerve pinch, which easily eliminates the mutant.

The 1996 “Star Trek/X-Men” film tells the story of the crew of the USS Enterprise encountering many familiar characters from the Marvel Mutants adventures, from the X-Men team of Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, Phoenix, Bishop and Gamebit to several prominent members of the Shi’ar race Shiite. The story’s villain is, fittingly, a combination of Star Trek character Gary Mitchell and X-Men villain Proteus, both of whom are connected to powerful reality-warping powers.

Of course, the heroes save the day after an initial misunderstanding, but this isn’t the only time the two groups have met… although their next encounter comes with a twist. In 1998, Marvel published “Second Contact”, a follow-up comic to the 1996 film “Star Trek: First Contact” in which a group of X-Men and the crew of the Enterprise from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” team up for battle. None other than Kang the Conqueror.

While the X-Men themselves are still taking their first steps into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s great to know that they come with a pre-determined crossover history with multiple “Star Trek” shows. 2024 Rated R: “Deadpool & Wolverine” It shows how much the MCU wants to handle its mutant characters, so should the stars align behind the scenes, who knows? One day in the (no doubt distant) future, it may be possible to see Wolverine lose to Spock in a glorious live-action event.
