The siege of the aid in Gaza imposed by the disputed Israel in the hearings of the International Court of Justice

Representatives of the United Nations and Palestinians in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accused Israel of violating international law by refusing to allow assistance in Gaza, on the first day of hearings on Israel’s obligations to facilitate delivery operations.

Speaking in Jerusalem on Monday, Saar said that the court was politicized, while the United Nations did not fail to eradicate the employees of the Palestinian Refugee Agency UNRWA, members of Gaza groups.

“They misuse the court again to try to force Israel to cooperate with an organization with Hamas terrorists,” Saar said. “The goal is to deprive Israel of its primary right to defend itself.”

The United Nations said in August that nine UNRWA employees may have participated in the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, and was shot. Another Hamas leader, UNRWA confirmed as one of its employees, was killed in Gaza in October, according to Israel.

Israel “destroying the basics of life”: the head of the mission

The International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court, was assigned in December to form an advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations to facilitate aid to Palestinians offered by states and international groups, including the United Nations.

Israel has repeatedly said that it would not allow goods and supplies to enter Gaza until Hamas will launch all the remaining hostages. Hamas was accused of kidnapping humanitarian aid, which is denied by the armed group.

Consultative opinions from the International Court of Justice bears legal and political weight, although it is not binding and the court has no enforcement powers.

After listening sessions, the World Court may take several months to form its opinion.
