Pattie Wu-MURAD disappeared in April 2023 during a single walk in central Japan. Despite the intensive search on the path of Kumano Kodo, which included American and Japanese search and rescue teams, the American embassy and the FBI, no trace has been found.

In September 2024, more than a year and a half after her disappearance, a fisherman found a backpack on the back if the rings and long -distance shoes near a course different from the place where her family believed was originally hiking. Japanese officials launched another research in this field, but no other evidence was found.

Earlier this year, a member of the original research team in the United States, which was in Japan in April, regained the area where Wu Murd’s backpack was found and many of its personal belongings and what seemed to be bone, in a post on social media.

On May 9, the family was told that the DNA test using a sample of the daughter of Wu Morad confirmed that the remains were a match.

“Although we tried to prepare ourselves for this result, the finals of these news are surprising,” her family said on a Facebook post. “It provides a degree of closure, but many questions are still unanswered, including fine conditions and the cause of Patti’s death. We now start the work process through international protocols to bring their remains to the home.”

The Wu Morad family said they hope to find more evidence to shed light on what happened.

“There will be more people in this corridor for the next months and years, and they may face more evidence,” her husband, Kirk Murad, NBC Connecticut said.

The family has expressed their gratitude for the search teams, volunteers and flow they have received over the past two years.

And they said: “Patty was an incredible woman who touched her love and friendship with many lives.” “While we are destroyed, we are also humble by the global community that gathered to help find it. We will continue to honor its memory with love and gratitude in our hearts.”
