The “Pink Women” identified by Interpol 20 years after her body was found in Spain

A dead woman was identified in Spain 20 years ago after an international campaign to solve cold cases.

“The Woman In Pink” returns to July 2005, when a body was found on a road in a small town in Barcelona. The International Police Agency said in A. press release. She died for less than 24 hours, and the authorities believe that her death was suspicious because the evidence showed that her body was transferred before discovering it.

In 2023, Interpol I launched the “Introducing me” campaignWhich seeks to naming women who have been killed or mate under suspicious circumstances in Europe in recent decades. Details are shared from cases examined under the initiative widely via the Internet and in the media. Interpol problems issue pictures to rebuild the face, personal property and tattoos. It also shares biometric data from initial investigations with 196 -year -old member countries and requires the application of the law to run these data through national databases.

Police in Spain submitted the case of “The Woman In Pink” to this initiative in 2024. This year, the police in Turkey managed the women’s mark through a biometric database and decided that the publications match that publication in Lyodella Zafada, a Russian citizen.

A close relative of Zavada presented a sample of the DNA that was compared to the sample investigators from the initial investigation. Samples coincide, allowing officials to confirm that the woman was a Zafada. She was 31 at the time of her death.

“After 20 years, an unknown woman was returned to her name,” Interpol Valdesa, Secretary -General of INTERSA. “Every successful identity brings the new hope to the missing families and friends and creates new threads for the investigators.”

“Definition” has led to another successful identity so far. Interpol said that there are 44 women remaining in the “Introducing Me” campaign, with the oldest situation dating back to 1976.
