US Defense Secretary Beit Higseth announced on Friday that the USNS Harvey milk will be renamed after the second world war, which received the medal of honor, and stripped the ship of the name of a dead gay activist who served during the Korean War.
In a video posted on social media, Higseth said it “comes out of politics from the naming of ships.”
The new name of the ship, chief officer, Oscar, Oscar Peterson, chief marine officer, who obtained the highest military decoration after his death for his actions during the Battle of Bahrain in 1942 in the Pacific Ocean.
The decision is the last step by Higseth to wipe the names of ships and the military bases presented by the administration of former US President Joe Biden, which in many cases chose to honor the members of the service who were women, minorities, from the 2slbgtQ+ community and more.
This is followed by the previous measures conducted by Higseth and US President Donald Trump to purify all programs, policies, books and social media that indicate diversity, fairness and integration into the army and other places.
The HegSTH Declaration comes during the month of PRIDE, as well as the Pentagon campaign to force the transgender forces to leave the American army.
“We do not restore the ship to anything political. This is not related to political activists,” said Higseth, who earlier this month.
He said, “The spirit of sacrifice and anxiety for his colleagues was in line with the finest traditions in the navy.”

Harvey Milk, who was filmed by Sean Ben in the Oscar -winning movie, served four years in the navy before forcing him to get out that he is gay.
Later on, he became one of the first homosexual candidates in publicly elected for public positions, in San Francisco. He was assassinated in 1978 by the former supervisor of the city.
