The One Mean Girls actor learned about his casting in the funniest way ever

In a recent Hallmark Channel panelJonathan Bennett spilled the tea on the casting process for “Mean Girls.” He wasn’t the first choice to play Aaron Samuels. In fact, he was, but some executive meddling nearly cost him his big chance.

According to Bennett, he passed the test by making Lindsay Lohan blush on camera. “(Mark Waters) looks at me and says, ‘Boy, you made the lead actor blush. You’re going to get the part,'” Bennett said. “I’m like, ‘Yes, I got that!'”

So, Bennett was surprised when, upon returning home from his triumphant audition, he received a phone call informing him that the production would be taking place with someone else — someone who, in the actor’s telling of the story, had the blond hair and blue-eyed look that was popular. At the time (he cites Paul Walker and Brad Pitt as examples). Sadly, Bennett has returned to foldable jackets at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Little did Bennett know that the actor playing Aaron was about to get himself fired by pounding the first table.

If you’re wondering how Bennett suddenly went from, in his view, Aaron’s front-runner to also-ran, it all came down to an executive decision from then-Paramount president Sherry Lansing, who wanted to go with a Paul Walker look-alike (whose identity is a mystery). And he goes up to Tim Meadows and says, ‘Dude, who are you?’ And Tim Meadows says, “I’m Tim Meadows, who are they.” You“It was so embarrassing, wasn’t it? He’s just saying all the wrong things. And when he was reading he was mumbling. And Lorne Michaels from Saturday Night Live used to have the table reads right…so they would say, ‘” Hello, check delivery.

The unstable actor was fired right after the table read, which wasn’t a big deal since everyone who didn’t mention Sherri Lansing’s name wanted Bennett in the first place. However, it was confusing for Bennett, who was shirtless in the middle of his shift at Abercrombie & Fitch when his agent called with the good news. Although he was understandably excited, the young actor’s focus was on his current job, so he told his agent that he would call him back after his shift ended.
