The Nigerian chef tries to make the largest amount of jollof rice in the world

The Nigerian chef and a former Ginner’s world record, Hilda Baki, tried to make the largest amount of Golov Rice in the world, a famous dish in West Africa.

Thousands of people gathered in Lagos to watch the latest world record for global influences, after they won the title of 2023 for the longest cooking marathon – which is 93 hours and 11 minutes – nearly four days.

The giant jollof rice recipe included 4000 kg (8800 pounds) of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste and 600 kg of onions – all flowed in a dedicated bowl of about 23,000 liters.

The dish took several hours for cooking and must now be validated by the World Guinnesse, the record with pictures and videos on achievement.

Baki, 28, told BBC Bidijn that it took one year to plan how to face the mammoth challenge.

“We are the African giant, and Golov is a food that everyone knows,” she said.

“It would be logical if we have the largest amount of jollof rice, it would be great for the country.”

It took two months to make the giant steel ship to hold the cooking team, which includes 300 people.

By working with a group of assistants who use huge wooden spoons, the Baci dish was later distributed to everyone to enjoy it.

Jollof Rice is the main element in Nigerian cuisine, and it features rice covered in tomato sauce, and is often associated with meat or seafood.

Hilda Pak won a competition for her copy of Golov Rice in 2021, then became a national feeling in 2023 when she got a cooking marathon record.
