The new trailer for the Breaking Bad creator’s Apple TV+ series teases the sci-fi premise on a cutting-edge level

Vince Gilligan is back, baby! After helping revolutionize television with “Breaking Bad” and delivering one of the best TV shows of all time with “Better Call Saul” is somehow better, Gilligan is finally back on our screens with a brand new TV show, one that’s as mysterious as those Cinnabon scenes at the beginning and end of every season of Better Call Saul.

Now, the first trailer for “Pluribus” has finally come out, and we still have little clues as to what hell this show is aiming for. However, we do have one idea: there seem to be some premise for the style of “Severance,” which means many mysteries and great emotions.

The teaser shows Seehorn as Carol Sturka, a woman having a rather strange time. She spends her day in a world that feels eerily quiet and orderly, like a Lumon Industries office building, talking with someone from the government who speaks to her from the White House, inviting her to join… something. “We’re here for you,” the speaker says, and the teaser ends with Seehorn’s character saying what we’re all thinking — “What’s this?”

The official synopsis or “Pluribus” gives us some clues as to what the show is about. Rhea Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, the most miserable woman in the world, and the only person who seems immune to the virus that has made everyone optimistic, calm, and happy.

The show seems like a no-brainer for AppleTV, which has cemented itself as the home of Best TV shows, especially science fiction. From epics like “Foundation,” set in vast alien worlds, or smaller-scale dramas like “Severance” and “The Big Door Prize,” which treat elements of their genre like a mystery box, slowly revealing the secrets of their worlds and what makes them different.

How exactly does the virus make everyone nice and happy? Why is Carol immune? What is this world’s equivalent of Lumon? Vince Gilligan appears to be returning to his “X-Files” roots while still working on his character-driven drama skills from “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.” If these two trailers are anything to go by, we’re in for a very emotional ride, even though the teaser mostly sells a trippy and bizarre story.

The first two episodes of “Pluribus” will premiere on AppleTV on November 7, 2025, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 26, 2025.
