The new trailer for “Starfleet Academy” has more than just lessons to learn

At San Diego Comic Con Earlier this yearthe first glimpse of what’s coming Star Trek displays, Starfleet Academyfocus on the latter, reminding us all that this show is about teaching The next generation Starfleet officers. Our latest look at the series at New York Comic Con today wants to remind you that this will still be an issue Star Trek The show with all its mystery, drama and adventure.

Its peak today Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con, Paramount has lifted the lid on the second trailer for Starfleet Academyrevealing a lot more excitement about the show than just the hopeful college-related vibes that were on full display in our first look last summer. There’s still enough of that – we get a lot of classes (with new and familiar teachers, e.g VoyagerRobert Picardo as the emergency medical hologram, and discoveryTig Notaro and Mary Weisman as Jett Reno and Sylvia Tilly, respectively), and plenty of youthful drama for this new class of academy recruits, the first to be welcomed into the honorary academy (Lowering the starship, USS Athens) in more than a century after Burning events from Star Trek: Discovery Season 3.

However, of all the new students, this trailer focuses on one in particular who will drive the broader narrative of the series: Caleb Meyer, played by Sandro Rosta. It turns out he has a great connection to both Starfleet AcademyNos Braca (played by the legendary Paul Giamatti, a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite hybrid), and the academy’s newest advisor, Captain Nahla Ackie (Holly Hunter), named after his mother (Black orphan and She-HulkTatiana Maslany was kidnapped by Braca when Caleb was a child. Finally finding the young boy again after fifteen years (and some history with Braka herself), Ake personally recruits Caleb to become an unlikely member of the new academy’s ranks… and perhaps face off with Braka again when he resurfaces.

Starfleet Academy Jenna Yasher also features a role Athens First Officer and Academy Cadet Laura Thock (half Klingon, half Jem’Hadar), Karim Dayan as Klingon Science Student Jay Dean Krag, Keris Brooks as Kasgian Sam Operations Student, George Hawkins as Khunian Leadership Path Student Darim Remi, Bella Shepard as Dar Sha Genesis Leith Leadership Path Student, Zoe Steiner as Tarima Sadal, daughter of the Chief Betazide, as well as Oded Fehr discoveryAdmiral Vance as a guest. It was also confirmed today that Stephen Colbert will provide the voice of Starfleet Academy’s digital Dean of Students, making daily announcements throughout the school.

Star Trek: Starfleet AcademyThe 10-episode first season of the series begins streaming on Paramount+ on January 15 with a two-episode premiere.
