New Orleans mayor was accused of conspiracy, fraud and obstruction by a major federal jury after a long investigation.

The charges issued on Friday against Latoy Kanril were based on accusations that she had tried to hide a romantic relationship with personal goalkeeper Jeffrey Fabi, who was salary as if he was in service while the couple was running their relationship.

The indictment states that Cantrell and Vapie “developed a personal and intimate relationship” in 2021, when they defrauded the city while trying to “hide their relationship and increase their time together.”

Michael Simpson, the Acting US lawyer, said that the couple met in an apartment while Fabi claimed that he was in service, and Kantel Fabi arranged to attend 14 trips.

Simpson said the trips, which included wine tasting on vineyards, described it as a Times “when they were really alone.”

The case was called “a three -year fraud scheme claiming that we took advantage of their public authority and positions.”

Cantril was claimed that she had a written certificate that she had activated a job on her phone, automatically deleted the messages in 2021, when she had not activated the feature until December 2022, one month after the media began speculating the husband’s behavior.

Simpson said that when a private citizen took pictures of the husband eating together and drinking wine, Cantrell presented a police report and asked for a restriction.

The mayor’s office did not comment immediately.

“This is a sad day for the people of New Orleans,” said Monet Briennis, spokesman for the city council president, JP Morrell.

Vapie is accused of hiding a romantic relationship with Cantrell and providing logs in wrong salary statements, claiming to be in service.

He admitted that he was not guilty after accusing him of defrauding the wires and making wrong data.

Canarrel, the first mayor in the city, is limited for the duration and will leave his position in January.
