The most surprising thing in weapons is not terror

This post contains spoilers of “weapons”.

In a relatively short period of time, Zach Craghger has confirmed itself as one of the most promising horror sounds of terror. After appearing in 2022, “Barbarian” became an unexpected success, Hollywood became very interested in everything he would do after that. Cregger use cache “Weapons” that ended in New Line Cinema after a bidding war. The resulting film was met with widespread praise and appears to be another winner.

The film occurs in the wake of a strange incident in which every one child of the same semester disappears mysterious at the same time on the same night. The surrounding community leaves wondering who is – or what – behind the mass disappearance. It is a scary movie, Which should not be a surprise to anyone who saw trailers. What is surprising is a funny, curse, too.

There was no ounce of deliberate humor in the marketing campaign. It was mysterious, full of haunting pictures of children running in the streets in the middle of the night, it seems that people had a kind of killer instinct, and a tweezer feeling. This is all present, does not make mistakes, but Cregger also found some time to inject a strict shock from the really loud and funny moments between horror.

Perhaps this should not be a great shock to those who saw “Al -Barbari”, which contains a full set of ideal comedy on the field Among some of the most drafted fear of modern memory. Once again, Cregger brings a similar balance, albeit radically different within the limits of a radically different movie, and emphasizes himself as the master of walking in both worlds.

At the same time, one has not been able to accuse “weapons” (or “barbarism” in this regard) of being terrifying/comedy. It is not “Sean from the dead”. It is not “the cabin in the forest.” It is a great and extremely effective horror movie about an evil witch that absorbs life from children in an unexpected town. Footage of that old woman full of makeup will chase nightmares. Pictures of zombies who come out of a house hiding dark inside will send chills to the spine. It is a horror movie first and foremost. Whether it’s so, it is undoubtedly funny like hell.

I can’t talk to what looks like watching this movie in isolation, but seeing it in a crowded house, even a deliberate comedy such as the recently released “Naked Gun”, will face a difficult time to extract the laughter you generate “weapons”. When these children who have the charming of the wicked, Glades, start through the neighborhood until they eventually tear them into bodies? It is a humor as a result of the absurdity of the highest arrangement. For this reason /Chris Evangelista from the movie said the movie made him “wandering with the ears” in its review.

When Archer Josh Brolin wakes up from his nightmare, which is nourished by Glades and screams simply “F ** K!” This is funny as it happens. However, Cregger somehow maintains more “weapons” than a horror movie with the spirit of humor, rather than a terrifying/comedy in equal parts. Not prepared, punchline. It is a twisted light in the dark. It is part of what makes Cregger feel unique.

What viewers might not realize is that Cregger was actually a member of the comedy series “The What Kids U”, which was broadcast from 2007 to 2011, so he has a background in the comedy. However, this was issued to a promising profession as a horror director, unlike Jordan Bell makes modern horror classics such as “We” And “Get Out” after spending years in making “Key & Pele” for the central comedy. There is something that can be said about this link.

/Chris Evangesta of Cregger spoke in honor of the “Weapons” version and asked him about his approaches to inject comedy into his films. Perhaps it is more surprising than the amount of humor in the movie itself is the fact that the director, through its acceptance, has no deliberate approach in these distinct pieces of humor:

“It is difficult. I do not have an approach. I do not have a process of how to put comedy in terror. Whenever it comes to me when I write, I just leave it when it feels appropriate. The only thing I know is that when I try to write something funny in a horror movie, it is usually badly bad, then I give up that, I am probably anywhere, so it only allows it, so it only makes it wrong. Anything. This tends to work.

You may not go to this movie you expect to laugh, but based on the reception so far, it doesn’t seem to be an unwanted surprise.
