A missile fired by the Houthi rebels in Yemen towards Israel on Sunday near Ben Gurion Airport, the country’s main international airport, sends a column of smoke in the air and caused panic among passengers in the terminal building.

The Houthis intensified alignment in Yemen, who claimed responsibility for the missile strike recently, saying that they were acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.

The great Israeli police chief, Yer Hiteroni, showed the correspondents on a hole caused by the impact of the missile, which the airport authorities said that landing alongside a road near a car park at Station 3.

“You can see the scene directly behind us, a hole that was opened with tens of meters and also dozens of meters,” Hitzeron said, adding that there was no major damage.

In a statement after the strike, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said: “Everyone who harms us will be damaged seven times.”

Channel 12 news in Israel said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet security ministers and defense officials on Sunday to discuss the response.

Most of the missile launch operations were intercepted by Yemen by missile defense systems in Israel, regardless of the strike that struck the main city of Tel Aviv last year.

The army said that it was investigating what happened with the launch of Sunday, which caused the alarm sirens across central Israel, including the relative in Tel Aviv.

Reuters correspondent at the airport, which is located between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, heard sirens and passengers saw by running towards safe rooms.

Several people at the airport posted videos filmed on mobile phones that showed a column of black visible smoke nearly, behind aircraft buildings and parked airports. Reuters did not check the videos.

The Israeli ambulance service said that eight people are being transferred to the hospital, including a man who suffers from a moderate to moderate condition with injuries in his limbs and two women in moderate condition with head injuries.

US strikes on the Houthis

Prosecuting the strike of the strike, the Houthi spokesman, Yahya Sari, said that the main Israel airport “is no longer safe for air travel.”

A spokesman for the Israel Airports Authority said that taking off and landing had resumed and that the operations in Ben Gurion had returned to normal, after reports on air traffic and reaching the airport roads that were banned.

However, flights were disrupted by the missile, according to the live air transport site for Ben Gurion.

Some flights have been canceled, including Air India, Tus Airways, and Luffhansa Group. Others, including US Nark airports in New Jersey and JFK in New York, were delayed by about 90 minutes. Reuters correspondent took a trip to Dubai, which was on time.

The strike came on Sunday as it was reported that the Israeli ministers were about to sign plans to expand the military operation in Gaza, which in March resumed after a two -month truce, and withdrew a pledge from the Houthis to strike Israel with more missiles.

The efforts to revive the ceasefire have fallen so far, and in March, US President Donald Trump ordered widespread strikes against the Houthis to reduce their capabilities and deter them from targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, who control areas of areas of Yemen, began targeting Israel and the Red Sea in late 2023, during the first days of the war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The war arose attacks led by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken, according to Israeli figures. Palestinian health authorities say that Israel’s attack on Gaza has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians and destroyed a lot of pocket.

The American strikes on the rebel group, which killed hundreds of people in Yemen, have been the largest American military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office in January.
