The Ministry of Finance is scheduled to move from its northern office to Kartavya Bhawan-1 from the newly constructed Central Secretariat building soon. According to the sources, the transformation process has already started, and officials will move to the next few days.

A modern circular from the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance said that “the transformation will start soon, most likely from September 22, 2025.”

“In order to transform the purpose, the transportation agency that will install things in North Block has been appointed, unloaded and re -installed in CCS1,” she said, adding that changing the divisions will be done one by one. The conversion protocol has also shown secret files.

This step may only include the current departments of the Ministry of Finance that are in North Block – revenue, expenses and economic affairs, while financial services departments and public asset management will continue to work from their current headquarters.

According to the sources, officials were also appointed in a cabin in the new building, and the Ministry of Finance is likely to start working entirely from the new office by early October.

This will give a great time for settlement and start preparations for the Federation’s 2026-27 budget, to be presented on February 1, 2026.

Political observers were waiting to see if the Ministry of Finance would move to a new office space before the budget or later after its presentation. One of the main issues was that the budget printing press is present in North Block. While the necessary arrangements are made to compress a more modern budget to be shelter in the new building, it is still running.

The transition to the new building is part of the government’s Central Re -Development Project and the decision to update offices complexes and remove them from elderly buildings that include central ministries including SHASTRI BHAWAN and Nirman Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened on August 6, Cartavia Bahwan-3.

Several ministries have also moved to the new office complex, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was also present in North Block with the Ministry of Finance.
