Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anant Anand said on Tuesday that she had spoken with a Canadian International Criminal Court judge facing US sanctions – but she did not mention Washington’s actions.

The United States Government, Judge Kimberly Prost, and three other judges in the International Criminal Court, which it said had had an effective role in a previous decision to investigate US officials and in efforts to sue Israeli leaders.

Prost served in the International Criminal Court Appeals Chamber, in March 2020, authorized the court’s public prosecutor to investigate war crimes and alleged crimes against humanity committed in Afghanistan since 2003, including studying the role of US service members.

The International Criminal Court judges issued arrest orders to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli defense president Yuof Gallant last November due to the alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza conflict. A memorandum was issued on the same alleged crimes of Hamas official, Muhammad Diab Ibrahim Al -Massari, also known as Muhammad Dave, which the Israeli army said in July 2024.

The International Criminal Court in the Judicial State has four major crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression crimes. He tries to individuals accused of any of these crimes, but not a state, government or political group.

The court currently includes 124 member states, including Canada. The United States and Israel are not the signatories.
