The mayor of a prisoner, an imprisoned, is an Erdogan competitor, in front of the first court since the arrest

The mayor of Istanbul’s opposition appeared in the court on Friday in a multiple cases against him. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside Silveri prison, west of Istanbul, where the session was taking place.

Mayor Emamoglu has been detained in Celvry since March 23. The case claims that he threatened the public prosecutor, one of six, preceding his arrest last month, which led to protests worldwide.

In his speech before the judge, IMamoglu said that he was in court because he won three elections against the person “believed to own Istanbul,” referring to President Repez Tayeb Erdogan, who launched his political career as a municipal mayor of the city in the 1990s.

The hearing was attended by the wife and son of the Imamoglu, as well as legislators from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), HALK and other ports. The case was postponed to June 16.

The mayor, who is also the main opposition opponent of Erdogan’s sentences, in the upcoming national elections, is also facing more than seven years in prison and a political ban because of “targeting, threatening them and insulting people working in fighting terrorism.”

The accusation stems from the comments he made on January 20, in which Istanbul’s chief prosecutor Akin Gorlik criticized the criminal cases that were brought against other opposition figures.

IMamoglu was arrested on March 19 regarding the achievement of two-one of which focuses on corruption in the Istanbul municipality and other relations claiming terrorism in his party’s agreement with pro-men politicians.

The famous Istanbul mayors, Ikrim Imamoglu, clashed with the riot police after his arrest with corruption allegations and a terrorist group assistant. A political competitor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to pass imamoglu in the upcoming national elections.

In 2019, IMamoglu was forced to hold repeated elections for the mayor after challenging the ruling party in the first vote on the alleged violations, and the electoral council in Türkiye canceled the results and canceled the state of Imamoglu after 18 days.
