The man who caught Charles Superj twice and is now the Netflix champion

The story of the French serial killer, Charles Superrag, who was filmed in the BBC-NETFLIX drama, is well known.

Now, the new Netflix movie tells the least well -known movie The story of an Indian police officer seized the notorious killer – not once, but twice.

Inspector Zand plays the role of Bollywood, Manoj Bagabayi, in the artistic role of the policeman while actor Jim Sarbeh Suprag – who was re -depicted in the name of Karl Bahjraj plays.

It begins on March 16 of that year with the escape of Sobhraj from Tihar Prison in Delhi, where he was serving a 12 -year prison sentence since 1976 for killing a French tourist.

He falsely claims that he was his birthday, feeding drug desserts for employees, almost all prisoners and fleeing.

A few days later, when he appeared in Mumbai, the inspector Madhukar Zand is called because he was already arrested in 1971.

The version of the movie, Mr. Zende – who has a veil in the movie called “OG”, or the original inspector Zende – brought to the main headlines in India, after decades of arrests.

I spoke to Mr. Zand and read his last book in Mumbai, who wanted to collect the story of Superrag’s arrest.

The 88 -year -old retired officer told BBC that he had arrested many worshipers and members of the secret world in Mumbai, but the reputation of “international criminal” that earned him the reputation of “SuperCop”.

Sobraj was born to an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother in Sigon, and he grew up in France, where his mother moved after marrying a French soldier.

It was not known when he reached the main headlines in India in 1970 due to a bold theft in ASHOK jewelry store, a five -star hotel in Delhi.

When the inspector Zind caught him a year later in Mumbai, the city’s papers described her as “another feather in the Mumbai police cover.”

Sobhraj was handed over to the Delhi police, which was dealing with the theft of jewelry, but within days he fled by climbing the bathroom tube in a hospital where he was accepted after complaining about the pain of the appendix.

Over the next five years, Sobhraj has become known as a notorious serial killer and was associated with more than 20 murders across India, Nepal and Thailand, where victims, suffocation, beating or burned were anesthetized.

For his talent for deceptive disguise and the ability to escape prison, he was called “Snake” – later became the title of British Broadcasting Commission and Netflix series about the killer, which was released in 2020.

Another name stuck was the “bikini killer” because of his tendency to target young Western women on the Darb al -Habi in Asia. Interpol issued a notice of the red corner against him and the police in dozens of countries that were looking for.

He ran out of luck in the summer of 1976 when the Delhi police arrested him to anesthetize 40 students from the French University and try to steal them in the Indian capital.

A court in India also convicted Suprag for killing a French tourist in a hotel in Mumbai and was sent to Tihar Prison to spend a 12 -year sentence.

Mr. Zand says that he found news of Soberj from Tihar in 1986 “worrying”.

“He was known for the use of sedatives and gave the voucher police not only in Delhi but in several other cities around the world. There was no reason that anyone called for trusting him,” he says.

Two weeks after the Sobraj broke, Mr. Zand was called by his boss – “I remember that I had grabbed the bikini killer once” – and asked to search for him again.

The new Netflix often tells the story of the inspector Zand and his team who then travels to air to arrest him.

The task, as written in the book, was exciting for several reasons.

The top of the list was the ability to reset Sobhraj. But this was the first time that he made a trip and remains in a five -star hotel. The possibility of eating seafood and the famous mango Alfonso added to excitement.

After the days he spent combing bars and beaches, Mr. Zand says that the team had confirmed that Superrag was already in air. Then they entered the O’Coqueiro Restaurant in Porvorim – the only place that provides wealthy foreigners for quick international calls.

“We suspected that he was in air to take a boat to the United States, where his wife lived and will contact her from O’Coqueiro,” he said.

“By 8 pm, both hockey and wedding match were in full swing. At approximately 10:30 pm, when he entered Superrag, I got to know him immediately,” Mr. Zand wrote. “The ten years of not seeing it fell in a moment.”

After his release in 1997, he returned to France, where he lived in Paris and interviewed journalists.

In 2003, he returned to Nepal and was arrested and spent 19 years in prison there on charges of American murders and Canadian for the year 1975. In 2022, a court edited him because of his age and good behavior and was It was deported To France.
