
Israel has carried out a strike targeting the senior leadership of Hamas in the capital of Qatar, Doha.
A BBC official told the Palestinian Armed Group’s negotiating team members during a meeting. It was not clear whether any of them had been killed, but the photos showed a building that was severely damaged in the northern Katara region.
The Israeli army accused Hamas leaders of being directly responsible for the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and organizing the war in Gaza.
Qatar has strongly condemned what was called “the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings that include many members of the political bureau in Hamas.”
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “This criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and rules, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents of Qatar.”
Gulf State – a major American ally in the region, which is the location of a major American air base – hosted the Hamas Political Office since 2012 and worked as a mediator in indirect negotiations between the group and Israel.
United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres said the strike was a “flagrant contrast” of Qatar’s sovereignty.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that what he called “action against terrorist heads” in Hamas was “a fully independent Israeli operation.”
“Israel began, Israel, and Israel bears full responsibility,” said a statement.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.
At least 64,605 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
