The Israeli -American hostage issued by Hamas in Gaza

The group said that Hamas issued a 19 -month captive hostility to the Israeli forces as part of the efforts made to reach a new ceasefire deal.

Adan Alexander, 21, was working in the Israeli army on the Gaza border when he was captured by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.

On Monday, Israel stopped its military operations in Gaza for a few hours to facilitate transportation. A senior Hamas official said that the release was supposed to be goodwill before US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East on Tuesday.

It is believed that Mr. Alexander was the last of an American citizen alive by Hamas. Trump offered “congratulations” to his family after his release.

In a statement, his family thanked the American President, but also urged the Israeli government and negotiators to continue to work to liberate 58 remaining hostages.

Mr. Alexander is the first to be released by Hamas since Israel restarted its military attack on March 18, after the end of the ceasefire for two months.

On Monday, the disguised Hamas fighters were seen, where they handed him over to the Red Cross workers in Khan Yunis, south of Gaza.

Then he was transferred to the Israeli authorities in Gaza before he did not hunt him with his family in southern Israel. The Israeli army said it provides a “safe passage” for the release of Mr. Alexander.

Netanyahu described Mr. Alexander as a “very impressive moment” – and thanked President Trump for his support.

Netanyahu said this was possible due to military pressure on Hamas and “the political pressure practiced by President Trump.”

He added that Israel intends to continue plans to intensify its military actions in Gaza and that there will be no ceasefire.

Hamas had said earlier that Alexander’s release was aimed at facilitating a deal to enter humanitarian aid into the pocket.

Israel prevented the entry of all food, medicines and other humanitarian supplies to Gaza for a period of 70 days, which relief agencies say that the policy of hunger can be a war crime, renewed its air strikes and other military operations there in mid -March.

Hamas has already said it would only agree on a deal that includes the end of the war. This has been rejected repeatedly by Netanyahu.

Trump is scheduled to arrive in the Middle East on Tuesday, and Israel pledged to expand its military attack against Hamas if a deal is not reached by the end of his visit.

Israeli officials said that their expanded attack plans include the seizure of all lands indefinitely, the displacement of the Palestinians by force to the south, and the distribution of aid with private companies despite the opposition from the United Nations and its humanitarian partners, who say they will not help because it seems to be “tools.”

Israel is scheduled to send representatives to Qatar on Thursday to discuss a proposal on more hostages.

Qatar and Egypt said that the release of Mr. Alexander was an encouraging sign of possible new armistice talks.

Alexander was born in Tel Aviv, but he grew up in New Jersey, and was working in the elite infantry unit on the Gaza border when he was captured by Hamas militants during the October 7, 2003 attack.

About 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages were taken. There are still about 58 hostages, up to 24 of them believed to be alive.

It is believed that five of the prisoners who were held in Gaza obtain an American citizen. Mr. Alexander is believed to be the last American alive.

Israel’s military campaign has killed 52,829 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health, including 2720 Palestinians who have been killed since March.
