The Houthis confirm that their Prime Minister was killed in the Israeli strike

The Houthi rebels in Yemen confirmed that Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al -Rahwi was killed in an Israeli air strike earlier this week.

The Iranian -backed group said that many other senior officials were killed when the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted the capital of Yemen, SANA, on Thursday.

The Israeli Defense Army said at the time that it attacked the Houthi “military target” in the SANA region, and does not give more details.

The Houthis took control of many northwestern Yemen since 2014, after they were expelled by the internationally recognized government from SANA and caused a devastating civil war.

The Houthis said that Rahwi was killed alongside many Houthi ministers, although he was not called others.

The Saudi News website states that the Foreign Minister of the Houthis, as well as the ministers of justice, youth, sports, social affairs and work.

The Houthi president’s office, the Houthi president, said that many other ministers “had moderate and serious injuries” as a result of the strike.

He added that Mohamed Ahmed Mifah, the Houthi Deputy Prime Minister, will take over a hierarchy.

Rhawi has occupied his position since August 2024, and he was largely seen as a movement’s figure instead of being part of the best decision -making circle planning for military operations.

Abdul Malik Al -Houthi, the final leader of the movement, as well as the group’s defense minister and chief of staff, was not said to be among the losses in a Thursday’s attack.

The Israeli Defense Army did not publicly comment on the latest developments.

Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis regularly fired rockets in Israel and targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, saying they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel, in turn, made air strikes on targets in parts of Yemen -controlled Yemen, with the declared goal of reducing the Houthi attacks.

Last week, Israel said it struck the Houthi targets in SANA, in response to the missile attack of the movement, which Israel said cluster munitions.
