Trade is scheduled to dominate the agenda, where US President Trump welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.
White House senior officials said on Thursday that hope is to obtain a bilateral trade deal between the two countries this year. They added that the two leaders will focus on discussions on areas such as trade, defense, energy, infrastructure and regional partnerships.
“There was some early body language from the India government that the Trump administration received well,” said White House official. “They are early but modest steps.”
The official said: “I expect what you will see to come out of (meeting) today is more momentum towards an increasing exhibition – and I confirm that the bilateral trade arrangement – between the dynamic and growing economy.”
