The grave of beloved science fiction author Octavia Butler survived the Los Angeles fire

The Afrofuturist’s grave is located in Altadena, which was hard hit amid recent fires that left thousands of Californians without their homes. But her burial site survived: AP She shared a photo of the site and stated that it received “minor damage,” citing a statement on the Altadena Mountain View Cemetery’s website. Butler died in 2006, and on her footstone was written: “Whatever you touch, you change. Everything you change, changes you,” quote from Like the sower.

Altadena, which CBS News Described as a “historically black community,” it is now working to rebuild.
