The foundation season 3 finally explains how robot wars began

The first robotics law is to watch the first show for the third season of “Foundation” before reading. Spoilers forward.

Although “Foundation” adapts to the significant science fiction tale of ISAAC ASIMOV, it also makes major changes. The largest of these involves the emperor and his advisor. In the show, there is no single emperor, but three – cloning from the original emperor at different points in his life, rules together and replacing it when they are older. As for this consultant, Demerzel (Laura Birn) is a great mystery, which the “basis” brings from one of the most famous ISAAC Asimov: Robott series.

When “Foundation” begins the third season, Demerzel passes a little from an existential crisis. At this time, the empire shrunk significantly, and the emperors lost a lot of power in front of the Magic Council. As for our non -emotional robot, it is in possession of the PRIME RADIANT device, a SELDON device that shows the occurrence of the expected future of humanity and great events. She knows that the end of the empire is close, and thus, its programming to serve them is about to end. She faces this, and begins to see a nun from the soft church as a therapist, emptying her fears and secrets.

This last part is important because in the first show of the third season of “Foundation”, Demerzel explains the history of the entire robots and how they were exterminated. Thousands of years ago with the growth of the number of robots, they began to argue over what is exactly harmful to humans, and thus disobeying the laws of the three robots (do not harm humans; obey humans; self -defense is allowed when it does not contradict the other law). In the end, one of the robots has suggested a new law that can replace all others: the law of Zeroth, which states that the robot should not harm humanity or allow humanity itself to harm. In this way, preserving species comes before the safety of one person.

The problem was that humans are very good, to cause their destruction, so what should robots do? Humanities lead them to extinction, and robots are not allowed to bring them, even by failing to work. This created a paradox that pushed robots to war with each other about what to do, with killing (supposed) some people in order to preserve species alive, leading to the destruction of all robots by humans – with the exception of Demirzel.

This is huge news for “The Foundation”. We do not finally have a schedule for events that link the robot chain to “Foundation”, but we also learn that Demerzel was general in wars before they are Klion I kidnapped her and turned into a slave to the genetic dynasty.

More importantly, it is re -allocating the overall robot wars as we knew them. This is no longer only about the robots that are upset with humans in the way they dealt. This is now a more complex and accurate philosophical paradox among robots. In fact, the way Demirzel puts, the robot war has always been more than the internal identity crisis that the robots faced, as they had to calculate whether it should interfere with humanity in order to save it, or allow it to die and be free from their rules and laws.

“The foundation” is an interesting adaptation because it often apparently as if it is a remix. It makes huge and severe changes to anger many fundamentalists, but at the end of the day, it reaches the same conclusion, even if it takes a completely different way to get there. This episode is an example, because robot wars are less than humans in exchange for robots and something closer to the automatic civil war. This is a more interesting idea: that the destruction of robots came because they were unable to agree on whether they should allow their creators to die and free from their rule, or harm some people in order to prevent them from destroying themselves. This is very important for Demerzel itself, which faces a similar paradox now because it knows that the empire may be on his last legs, but also (according to Harry Sildon), its destruction will ensure the survival of humanity as a whole,).
