The family’s family settlement in Zambia with the government

Days after uncertainty and negotiations, the funeral arrangements have been completed for the former President of Zambia.

Edgar Longo, who led Zambia from 2015 to 2021, died 11 days ago in South Africa where he was receiving treatment for an unknown disease.

According to his family, he has left instructions that his political rival and current president Hakinde Hishilima “should not come anywhere near his body.”

But a spokesman for the Lungu family confirmed that an agreement had been reached with the government that allowed Hichilema to head the state’s funeral next Sunday.

The class caused terror among some in Zambia with people wondering and wondering how they should mourn their ex -leader.

Days after the talks, the Lungu family and the government agreed to:

• The body of the former president will be transferred to the Zambian capital, Lusaka, on Wednesday, on a private rented plane
• Upon arrival at the airport, the body will be received by the family and after that there will be a full military honor
• It will then be transferred to the Lunugu residence in Lusaka, where it will be located in the state
• For a period of three days, starting on Thursday, it will be transferred to a conference center in the capital, where the public can pay their respect
• The state funeral will take place on Sunday, June 22nd
• The former president will enter the next day in Embassy Park, official presidential burial lands, and the official mourning will end.

At a joint press conference in South Africa, a spokesman for the Lunugu Makebi Zulu, who was sitting alongside the Secretary of the Council of Ministers in Zambia Patrick Kangua, said that the family apologized for the inconvenience and pain that the lengthy negotiations may be caused, but we were doing our best to honor the desires of the previous president.

Mr. Zolo also said that the family was going on the basis that the government “will not deviate from our approval.”

Speaking of the government, he appealed to Mr. Kangua for the sake of unity and thanked the Zambians for their patience “during this difficult time.”

Six years later, as a major country, Lungu lost the 2021 elections against Hichilema with a large margin.

After that defeat, he retracted politics, but later returned to the battle.

He had ambitions to compete for the presidency again, but at the end of last year, the Constitutional Court prevented him from running, and decided that he had already served the maximum classes permitted by the law.

Although he was excluded from the presidential elections, he remained a great influence in Zambian politics and did not retract his criticism of his successor.

Last year, Lungu complained about the harassment of the police and accused the authorities of placing him effectively under house arrest. He also said he was prevented from leaving the country. The government denied all of the accusations.
