England captain Leah Williamson expressed her support for Marie Airbes after the goalkeeper retired from international football.
Erbes, who recently joined Paris Saint -Germain, confirmed that she will not play with England on Tuesday, more than one month before the start of Euro 2025.
The timing of the advertisement led to some criticism, but when I was asked if she had seen Eris’s decision as a selfish, Williamson defended her friend.
“I think access to this decision should be one of the most difficult things in your career,” Williamson said.
“She is a human being first and I hope that Mary is fine and that he is her best decision. We will miss her.”
Williamson, who was new to lift the Women’s Champions League with Arsenal last Saturday, participated how close she is to Eris inside and outside the stadium.
She added: “I spoke to Mary, she is one of my closest football friends-so I am destroyed, just because I love her, I would like to be her teammate.”
“I think the way you wear the England shirt is an example for all of us, so I am very sad because those memories will not continue in the England shirt.

“But for her, she thinks this is the best thing, and I will always support her.”
The coach of the Sarina and Yumman also addressed the exit of Eris, admitting that she was “disappointed and sad” about the decision.
“This must be a really difficult decision for her, so it is for us,” she added.
“Of course, I have some conversations that I do not want to share here because this is between us. It is difficult, I find it difficult, and it is difficult for her at the same time.
She did a great job for England. I made a big difference and asked an incredible journey yet. I really cherish it.
“It is emotional because we also have a relationship and we have a huge journey with a lot of high levels, and of course, some of its lowest levels as well.
“This makes it really difficult. But we have to advance and we have no time to celebrate now because we go to the euro.”
Eris concludes her career in England with 53 games over eight years.
It was part of the teams that raised the European Cup 2022 and 2023 for the final women, and also helped England reach the World Cup final last year.
