Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators walked in the streets of the Italian capital, Rome, against the war in Gaza, in a protest called by the main opposition parties in Italy, which accuses the right -wing government of silent confusion.
At the beginning of the Saturday march, the demonstrators held a banner, reading: “Stop the massacre, stop complicity!”
The protest has attracted a diverse crowd from all over the country, including many families who have children.
According to the organizers, up to 300,000 people participated in the gathering organized by the left opposition to request the government to obtain a clear position on the conflict in Gaza.
“This is a tremendous rumor response to say enough to the massacre of the Palestinians and the crimes of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin (Netanyahu’s government,” said the leader of the Democratic Party in Italy, Elli Shalin, to reporters in the march.
“There is another Italy that does not remain silent as the Melonian government does,” she said, referring to Prime Minister Georgia Miloni.
Meloni was recently pushed by the opposition to publicly condemn Netanyahu’s attack in Gaza, but many observers considered her criticism very shy.
Earlier this week, the Italian leader urged Israel to stop its military campaign immediately in Gaza, saying that his attacks were unpaved and should end to protect civilians.
Israel faces the escalation of international criticism for its attack and pressure to allow assistance in Gaza during a humanitarian crisis.
Gaza under the Israeli siege was exposed to about three months, as experts warned that many of its residents were two million residents at a risk of famine.
The Israeli war on Gaza killed at least 54,772 Palestinians and wounded 125,834, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. An estimated 1139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas -led attacks on October 7, 2023, and took more than 200 prisoners.
