After a gap of more than six months, the Commodity and Services Tax Council is likely to meet in early July before the seasonal parliament session. According to the sources, while the council was originally scheduled to meet in June, it is now possible that it will meet in July, given the heavy agenda before it.

There is no official date for the commodity and services tax council meeting, and the agenda is expected to be completed later.

However, the sources indicated that the issues about rationalizing commodity and services tax rates as well as the future of stopping compensation are likely to be part of the agenda. With the increase in invitations to simplify the tax, a separate business squad for government and central officials can also be created.

According to the sources, the discussion of compensation compensation will be a major problem due to its completion in March 2026. CESS can be converted into a tax tax with fears from some countries that will go directly to the center.

It is also understood that the CESS ministers group compensation has supported CESS integration with commodity and services tax rates, which will be applicable to the current elements that attract these cars such as cars, exchange and air drinks.

“All countries support CESS in some way or another due to revenue considerations,” the source explained. Empowerment of enabling the commodity and services tax law must be made to continue CESS in the new figure.

However, discussions about rationalizing a large rate under commodity and services tax may take longer with the continued concerns of different countries about influencing the revenues of such a step.

The Federation’s Ministry of Finance was also looking for views from various stakeholders, including the industry rooms, on the changes that will be made in the tax and services tax. The Federation’s Minister of Finance Nermalla Sitaramann is scheduled to meet the officials of the Central Council for Taxes and Innight Customs on June 20 when she is expected to get more comments on the challenges on the ground facing GST.

The GST Council last met on December 21, 2024 at Jaisalmer and expectations that it will be meeting soon to take over these main issues.
