His family said on Monday that Miguel Orbi, the Colombian Senator who was transferred to the hospital since he was shot in the head in June during an event in the campaign, died. It was 39.

Orepe, father and father’s husband, were shot at the head while delivering a letter in a campaign in Bogota on June 7 and underwent multiple surgeries during his stay in the subsequent hospital.

He showed some improvement in July, but his condition worsened during the end of last week due to bleeding in his central nervous system, the hospital said on Sunday.

“You will always be a love of my life,” said his wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, on Monday. Thank you for a life full of love, thank you for being the father of girls, the best father of Alejandro.

“I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you,” she added. “I lie in peace, the love of my life, I will take care of our children.”

The assassination raised the memories of severe political violence in the past Colombia. In the 1980s and 1990s, four presidential candidates were killed in separate attacks by blame on the drug gangs allied with the right -won of the oceanic death teams.

The mother of Uriani, journalist Diana Turai, was killed in 1991 during a failed rescue mission after her kidnapping by Medeline Cartel, headed by Lord Pablo Escobar.

The Urby family is prominent in Colombian policy. His mother grandfather, Julio Cesar Turai, served as President of Colombia from 1978 to 1982, while his grandfather, Father Rodrigo Urby Ecavaria, chaired the liberal party and supported the successful Virgo Parko campaign in 1986.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a post on X that he was “very sad” due to death.

“The United States stands in solidarity with his family, the Colombian people, both in mourning and demanding justice to officials,” said Rubio.

The current Prime Minister’s critic

Uriani has enjoyed a rapid political rise, to become a recognized lawmaker for the right -wing Democratic Center and the presidential hope known for his sharp criticism of the administration of leftist President Gustavo Petro.

At the age of twenty -five, he was elected to the Bogota City Council, where he was a prominent opponent of Petro, the mayor of the capital, and criticized Petro treatment for waste management and social programs.

In 2016, in 30 years, Urby, the secretary of the city’s government, was appointed, the smallest person to hold this position.

He resigned from this post in 2018 to launch an unsuccessful offer for the position of mayor of Bogota as an independent.

In the 2022 legislative elections, Urby led the Senate List of the Democratic Center, which is a right -wing party, with the slogan “Colombia First”.

In the Senate, Orepe strengthened his role as one of the main voices of Petro, and criticized the government’s peace strategy aimed at ending the six -year -long armed conflict in Colombia. Orepe said that the strategy had led to reverse results, as the government stopped attacks on armed groups with the failure of peace talks.

“Colombia needs leadership, unity and work. Peace cannot be reached by impunity,” Urby told his colleagues from the legislators in July 2024, on the day of the opening of the legislative session. It is only a dangerous security policy that motivates criminals to put their arms and submit them to the law.

“Without security, there is nothing. Prosperity is reached through opportunities and opportunities with investment, but for there to be an investment, there must be clear rules,” he added.

He was running to be chosen as a presidential candidate at the Democratic Center in the 2026 elections.

Six people were arrested by shooting, including two men, the Prosecutor’s Office says he met in Medeline to plan the assassination.

A 15 -year -old was arrested on charges of shooting within hours of the crime, but the police said they were following the “intellectual authors” of the attack.

In a video of the boy’s arrest in June, he was independently verified by Reuters, he could hear screaming that he was appointed by a local drug dealer.
