The Swiss village of Mountain was buried in a flood of ice, clay and rocks, after a large part of the ice river collapsed in the valley below.

The village of Blatten, which was evacuated from 300 of its residents several days ago, was mired in thousands of tons of clay and ice.

Global warming causes the ice rivers to melt more quickly. Meanwhile, the frosty soil – which is often described as the glue that carries high mountains together – is also the melting of the ice.

The loss of one person was reported, and many houses were flattened.
