A bus accident in Guatemala was killed at least 53 people and several others were injured after the car fell from the bridge and fell to a valley on Monday morning, according to government officials.

The bus was introduced in a hard -to -reach out valley in the wastewater river, according to footage from the scene. The luggage and personal property were widespread through water banks. The officials said the death toll was expected to rise from the accident, which occurred at about 4:30 am local time.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, which issued the death toll in a statement, said that he was investigating the accident.

Carlos Hernandez, a fire department spokesman in Guatemala, said the bus driver had lost control of the car due to mechanical failure, causing the collision of two other cars. However, Mr. Hernandez warned that the investigation of the accident was still going on. Local media has published a bus camera footage, which seemed to hurry directly before the collision.

President Bernardo Arvalo of Guatemala announced the National Mourning and ordered the army to mobilize and support rescue efforts.

“I stand in solidarity with the families of the victims who woke up today to the tragic news,” said Mr. Arvalo in a televised speech to the nation. “Their pain is my pain.”
