The bandits in Nigeria kill 38 hostages even after the ransom

A BBC local official said that the kidnappers in Nigeria have killed at least 35 people who were kidnapped from a village in the northern state of Zamvara, although a ransom is paid for their release.

In recent years, criminal gangs in the region, known in the country as a bandits, have taken the kidnapping of people as a way to raise money.

In this incident, 56 people from the village of Banga, the Koran Namuda area of the local government were transported in March. Then the gunmen demanded a ransom of one million lights ($ 655; 485 pounds) for each prisoner, the media report in Nigeria.

Local Prime Minister Maniro Heidara Correa said that most of the dead were young people who “slaughtered like rams.”

“What happened is that the thieves demanded the ransom money, and after each other, they were given what they asked. Then they released 18 people, including 17 women and a young boy, on Saturday.”

“They are just (the gunmen) know why they killed them. They are people who have no meaning and no heart. They forget that they are killing their brothers, and we will all meet before God.”

The residents said that three pregnant women who were among the hostages gave birth while they were in captivity, but all the newborn were died due to lack of care.

The survivors narrated that they were forced to watch the brutal killing of the hostages before allowing them to leave the forest.

Sixteen who were released on Saturday in the hospital are receiving treatment, while the bodies of the 38 bodies who were killed by the bandits are also returned to the bodies are rarely released.

In a statement, the Zamvara government condemned the killings that it described as “barbaric and cheese” and announced that these atrocities added to its intention to eliminate terrorism from the state.

The government said that the killers would be brought to justice.

In an attempt to limit the tied and profitable kidnapping, a law was enacted in 2022, making the crime of paying ransom payments. He holds a prison sentence for at least 15 years, but no one has been arrested at all on these charges.

The kidnapping is also punishable by death in cases where the victims die.

But families often feel that they have to pay to save their loved ones, noting that the government is unable to ensure their safety.
