Patrick MiiraidWhat is the island of what, Seychelles

A small, arid island in the Indian Ocean has become a battlefield in the weekend in Seychelles, which sparked global environmental anxiety.
Island Island, in the Western Indian Ocean, does not have a little the first look that would put even the most curious and exhausting pulse race.
He was almost stripped of naked and hot, with a few human -made structures, and covers an area similar to Heathrow Airport in London, and can be said that it is more than itself more than that.
However, this tropical island’s anomaly – whether geographically, or away from the famous ideal of the lush committee – has become a hot point of geopolitical forces and environmental visitors, as well as the political lightning rod in Seychelles, the country it owns.
The island of the assumption is located at a height of 1,140 km (700 miles) from the most populated main island in Seychelles, which is a dominant finger in the form of a low -level scrub, jammed with Kasarina trees.
It has been combined by nitrogen -rich Guango (marine bird waste) and agricultural use ended decades ago.
But now, the strategic position of Al -Jazeera Island and the environmental value is invaluable.
The island is located near the Silk Road this century – crowded commercial shipping corridors carrying goods and materials manufactured from East Asia to Africa and abroad. India was keen to build a military base on the assumption, but it was rejected.
Permanent or realistic property has so far been out of cards thanks to the pressure from the proud seychelois audience. With the small republic going to the polls in presidential and parliamentary polling cards, the assumption is a major electoral point of contact.
“At least under my hour, there will be no foreign military base in Seychelles,” says President Ramlawan for BBC News, on the eve of the polling. “We are not interested in political geography. We remain abroad.”

So renting the island of the hypothesis, or at least part of it, for the family of Qatari, has sparked sensitivities. Through the Investment Company in the Middle East, Assets Group is currently building Qatar, an exclusive resort consisting of 40 Villa Luxury, with a developed concrete pilot who is able to receive executive aircraft, away from the eyes of intruders.
“The assumption contains one of the longest beaches in Seychelles, which may be one of the most important beaches nesting green turtles in our country,” says Lucy Hartter, the conservation campaign Lucy Hartter. “It is a really important place to keep it.”
It is important, Island Island is a gateway to the UNESCO Aldabra Atoll, just 27 km (17 miles) to the north. One of the most virgin ecosystems in the world, Aldabra is home to 400 species that are not anywhere else on this planet. Sir David Attenburo described it as “one of the greatest natural treasures in the world.”
But the noisy neighbors risk disrupting the accurate balance of nature.
“We have seen that picture of the turtle shell that was destroyed by building machines,” says Ms. Hartter. “Where is the supervision? There is no transparency. The way these decisions are taken under the table.”
It seems that the stopping notification on the development, issued by the country’s planning authority in May this year, has been ignored. Building work continues.
Last week, two groups of the campaign, Aldabra and Seychelles Friends in the heart, presented a judicial order against the government in the country’s constitutional court to stop the project, pending the study of independent independent and independent environmental impact and ensuring that international observers will ensure nature protection.

Ramkalawan, an Anglican priest, a decree signed the deal with Qatar last year, is not sleeping. It is quick to point out that remote seychelles, with a population of more than 120,000, faces unique challenges. The assumption lease contract, which requires the Qatari occupation for 70 years with a first payment of $ 20 million (15 million pounds), was a simple account.
“What is wrong with that?” He asks. “We have all Hilton hotels. The Qataris (luxury hospitality operator) brings the hotel company that you will run. We have to search for investment to survive.”
The cleric and his party, Linion Democratic Ceciloa (LDS), won power five years ago on a strong ticket to fight corruption, assuming a position in the midst of a global pandemic.
Covid-19 quickly single tourists and guest homes, and shortly after public treasures. However, although his smart government responds and Sycheel bounces significantly to the rapid economic apostasy, his popularity swings.
Protecting the assumption protection is more convincing to many voters more than positive economic indicators in their country: moderate total national debts compared to GDP (58 %) – much less than the largest and largest economies; GDP GDP growth growth of ICF-Forecast by 5.8 % this year; Rebuilding foreign reserves ($ 800 million); Reduced unemployment rate (3.5 %) and upgrading the recent foreign investor risk through Fitch to “stable”.
The numbers can lie, insisting on the main rival of Ramicanan for the presidency, Patrick Hermene, the opposition leader United Seychelles (the United States).
“We are very skeptical about all these classifications,” he says. “We feel the poor. People cannot carry two meals daily. These classifications are based on statistics provided by this government. This government is famous for cooking books.” The government denies committing any violations.
Many believe that the assumption row can help Dr. Hermeini’s sweep on power, as he is carrying out campaigns to clean policy and rid the General Administration of Corruption.
BBC tells that his arrest two years ago on suspicion of using magic to make political gains “shock him”. “I was shocked more than that the president actually believed that the coup could use magic. It was more absurd – they came here to search for dead human bodies and bones.”
Medic’s Party, which is a reformulation of the late President France-Bara René, the reputable socialist reputable socialist, is still proudly calling for the name and image of Rene. It has committed itself to René’s luxury, which reduced the retirement age to 63, cuts the island’s buses by 40 % and increases the advantages of social security.
Hermini promised, however, there will be no return to the darkness of the dark that included killing and exile and the disappearance of political dissidents.
Such assurances encouraged some holders of knowledge of the Ramicanan government to switch their loyalty, including Alexander Pierre, the mastermind of its victorious election campaign for LDS five years ago. Her supporters accuse him of treason, while accusing the forgery government and providing a third of its promises after five years.
For some, the assumption island’s deal appears to be a lot broken promise.

Of the 11 presidential hope – one per 7000 voters – is still eight in the race. The second round process can be made if the initial ballot does not result in any explicit winner. Voters will also choose members of the 26 -seat National Assembly.
The owner of the Firebrand newspaper and the independent presidential presidential candidate used his weekly publication to condemn the priest as Autocrat, who has been self-serving-and since then he has been denied by press calls in the House of Representatives.
“Every project, every sector, there is corruption,” says Volcere, a royal maker in the possible second round.
He says, “I was not fighting for justice.” “You cannot circumvent the legal process. It does not matter who you are.”
However, Volcere has been criticized for defending the Mukesh Valabhji case – a wealthy businessman Seychellois and former adviser to the late President René for trial to possess illegal weapons. He is also awaiting a second trial for corruption, along with the former first lady Sarah René and others, in which Vallaji is Accused of clarifying tens of millions of dollars. He denies any violations.
One of the Volcere policies is the criminalization of entertainment hashish, which is believed to put the drug princes in Seychelles from work and drop the large number of drug -addicted employees – 10 %, according to official government data.
A large part of the heroin that lands on these islands is pulled from the freight corridors that pass near the hypothesis island. No one has yet found a way to stop it. Many suspects of acquired interests are responsible, but the fear of naming names.
“What has been missing for a very long time, it is a good judgment, transparency and accountability. If this is placed in implementation, we will be 50 % there,” says Volcri.
This weekend elections may provide a clearer feeling whether or not.
