Below is a copy of an interview with Senator Jin Shaheen, New Hampshire’s Democrat, which was broadcast on “confrontation with the nation with Margaret Brennan” on August 24, 2025.
Margaret Brennan: We have now returned with the best Democrats in the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator New Hamebeshire Jean Shaheen. It joins us from Amman, Jordan. Good morning, Senator. I know that we have a little delay here, so I will be released directly.
Sen. Jin Shaheen: Good morning, or in the afternoon here.
Margaret Brennan: Yes, exactly. You are sitting in the Armed Services Committee as well. Here in Washington, there was a surprise round of the shooting that we learned on Friday. There was First Lieutenant Jeffrey Kroos, head of the Defense Intelligence Agency. It was rejected, the Pentagon did not explain the reason. In addition, the naval reserve head was shot, Admiral Nancy Laccor. The seal of the naval that supervises the leadership of the Special Naval War, Admiral Milton Sands, was rejected. Was Congress were informed of the reason for the release of these leaders by Minister Higseth?
Sen. Shaheen: I am not aware that Congress was informed of any of this extinguishing, and they came in the wake of the shooting earlier this year, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chairman of Marine Operations, Admiral Franchiti, and a series of other military leaders. It is unfortunate, because one of the things, one of the strengths in the US military, are professional military leaders who have reached their ranks, who have training and experience, to be able to do jobs. What we do not want is political people in those jobs, who will not provide sincere assessments of the military situation wherever we are. So it is very disturbing.
Margaret Brennan: I think our summary there is just frozen, and we will try to get it, if we can. Senator joins us from Amman, Jordan. So I will take a break while re -establishing this call.
Sen. Shaheen: The feeding was frozen.

Margaret Brennan: We are now back with Senator Jin Shaheen, who joins us remotely from Oman, Jordan. We- we have lost there, but we are very happy that you are now with us, Senator. Let me ask you why you are in the Middle East now. On Friday, we heard this internationally recognized body, supported by the United Nations, IPC. Track hunger. They stressed technically, that there is a human famine ongoing in Gaza. This is a very rare designation, only four times were set. The country in which it is located, Jordan called a “shameful failure of humanity” that Israel is heading to Palestinian hunger without punishment, describing it as a war crime. Do you say that the siege for three months by Israel Gaza is a war crime?
Sen. Shaheen: I think it- it is a shameful black sign for humanity that the world allowed this to happen and that Israel allows this to happen. One of them- we held a very good meeting with King Abdullah from Jordan, and one of the places we visited is the Jordanian humanitarian assistance program that is trying to obtain assistance in Gaza. This is funded by trucks, warehouses and food that the United States contributed to as part of this administration. They are trying to get 150 trucks a day to Israel. Israel has prevented those trucks from going in a way that provides the nutrition that Ghazan needs to prevent hunger. It is unacceptable. Prime Minister Netanyahu is the point where the obstacle occurs. He needs to look at what he does and changes his position.
Margaret Brennan: On Friday, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office had a very harsh statement on the assignment of famine. They called it, quoted, “Decese of Modern Blood, spread like wildfire through bias.” This indicates that this revolves around hostile hatred instead of hunger. How do you understand the Israeli defense?
Sen. Shaheen: I don’t think this is a good defense. The truth is that this is not related to the sublime anti -antagonism, which disturbed it, and the position of the United States against anti -Semitism, and we need to do everything we can to prevent it. But the fact is that we have people who die because they are volatilely starving to death, because Israel refuses to allow the humanitarian aid that people need to preserve. Not only that, but they are preparing to do the other- or they have already started, as they plan for another great incursion in Gaza in ways that will kill more people. So this is unacceptable. The world needs to speak. I think it is extremely important to allow this humanitarian aid in it, for people who are starving.
Margaret Brennan: I understand your criticism now. I want to ask you a little about standing in the US policy, because this was a problem even during the Biden administration. In fact, former Vice -National Vice -Security Adviser to President Biden Jo John Fair wrote an article in the Atlantic Ocean, and said that while he stands next to the decision to embrace Israel after October 7, “We have done very little, after it was too late to reduce the really disastrous harm that causes Israel’s response.” Do you agree with him, and do you wish to talk more sooner?
Sen. Shaheen: I don’t think this is my party’s position. With me on this trip to Jordan, he is Congress member Joe Wilson of South Carolina. He agreed to me that we need to make sure that these humanitarian aid trucks enter Israel. We need to do everything in his power to make sure that Prime Minister Netanyahu stops road barriers that prevent humanitarian aid from entering. I think it is something, I hope, both Democrats and Republicans can embrace it.
Margaret Brennan: But- do you agree to this self-criticism by this main democracy? Do you think the Democrats had to say more than that-
(Start the mutual hadith)
Sen. Shaheen: We must do more and we should do more. definitely.
Margaret Brennan: Yes. I want to ask you too-
Sen. Shaheen: I think everyone-
Margaret Brennan: Go ahead.
Sen. Shaheen: -Do you have to say more, not only Democrats, but Republicans.
(End of the spokesperson)
Margaret Brennan: Why are you now?
Sen. Shaheen: We have had the opportunity to be here today to meet those Jordanians who are working hard to try to obtain humanitarian assistance in Gaza, who are exposed to this effort because of the meaningless bureaucratic obstacles. When it takes hours to check a truck, it can be done in two to three, and it turns aid when it costs hundreds of dollars per truck, and they run these trucks away, and when they return the next day, this costs hundreds of other dollars to the same truck, when they find an excuse for the reason they stop at the border. This- this is not a legitimate effort to obtain humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, who are starving. This can be changed. All it takes is the saying of Prime Minister Netanyahu, we will allow this aid.
Margaret Brennan: We joined Senator Jin Shaheen to Amman, Jordan. A little delay there. We will return.
