Below is an interview with Representative Mike Loler, the Republican in New York, which was broadcast on “confronting the nation with Margaret Brennan” on August 24, 2025.
Margaret Brennan: Welcome to the nation. We are now going to Republican Congress member Mike Luller from New York. It is good to be here, a member of Congress, there is a lot to reach it, but I want to pick up something we were discussing with the governor of Maryland, and this was the re -division of circles, which occur. The Republican President encouraged Texas to do so. Now, California Democrats are trying to obtain regions as well. Why is this severely opposed?
representative. Mike Luller: I think Gerrymandering is essentially wrong, and it is at the heart of the reason for breaking Congress for many years. If you look three decades ago, there are more than 100 competitive areas. Last November, only 35 seats were identified by five points or less, and I had no one, despite the fact that Kamala Harris won my seat, won six and a half. So when you look at the map throughout the country, about 400 members are not in competitive areas. They focus primarily on the introductory elections, not the general elections, and therefore do not focus on attracting a much wider group of voters. I think this clearly reflects itself when it is already trying to negotiate the legislation and beyond. But when you look at the re -division of circles, it is clear that both parties have no clean hands here. The Democrats in New York re -expanded the contract last year in 2024 at the request of Hakim Jeffrez, who wanted to obtain seats in New York to become a speaker. They operated the maps after the court’s accumulation and obtained a positive ruling requesting the re -division of the middle, despite the fact that they distributed the maps in 2022 and were thrown because they violated the state constitution. So, New York will go a third bite in Apple, according to Hogul, who has made it clear from the moment when I took office in 2021 that it would use the re -division of circles to help Democrats win the council. So this is what you deal with, and the red states and blue states are trying to get an electoral feature at the present time.
Margaret Brennan: I think what is different now is the direct president’s participation in this, which is why it is interesting that you have legislation to try to oppose some of this. Do you really think that you can do this if the US President does not want to do this?
representative. Luller: Look, clearly, it will be a battle, but this is something I think you need to reform. We need to ban limestone worldwide. We need to block the mid -nodes. I want to include the limits of the period as part of these reforms, because I mainly believe when you have members of Congress such as Chuck Schumer, who has been in his position since 1974 has not held any job outside the elected position. It’s time to go. You need the limits of the term. You need general repair. So I will fight the teeth and nails to accomplish this. Obviously, you know that there are strong opposite winds from both sides, because frankly, I do not think that both sides are interested in fixing the way in which Congress works.
Margaret Brennan: No, they want the majority. a period. On this question, although we were discussing with the ruler, this is the crime. The President of the United States stated that New York is another city that wants to be seen to deploy the National Guard forces. Do you think this is the best use of federal taxi dollars, and are you comfortable so it happens in your jurisdiction?
representative. Luller: The crime was a major problem in New York for years, and Cathy Hochol, Albani and New York City failed to address this crime.
Margaret Brennan:- Do you want the National Guard forces?-,,
representative. Luller:- By the way, Cathy Hochol fill in Cathay Hutchol, the National Guard forces to go to the metro system due to the crime in the metro system. So this was done, clearly, for the purpose of increasing resources and trying to prevent crime. When you look at the fact that in New York City, for example, 80 % of arms crimes do not condemn or prosecute, 80 % of these individuals are launched on the street despite the use of weapons in committing a crime. You are looking at Washington, DC, 1.7 % of weapons condemnations lead to prison. Therefore, when Democrats talk about armed violence, how do they not want to prosecute the law and impose it against criminals who use weapons to commit a crime?
(Start the mutual hadith)
Margaret Brennan:-No, but this is local-
representative. Luller:-This is an essential problem and for this reason the killing rate-
Margaret Brennan:- This is a local issue that you need to change. But in terms of question about the forces-
representative. Luller:- No- No- No- Margaret, which is why the killing rate is very high-
Margaret Brennan: – FBI forces, ATF agents, or drug anti -drug department agents prefer. You do not want federal agents with law enforcement officers in New York City. Prefer patriotic guards –
representative. Luller:- I want- I want all of the above .-
Margaret Brennan: – Who trained in police training?
(End of the spokesperson)
representative. Luller: No, no, do not put words in my mouth. Best all of the above, FBA, DeA, ATF. I only met ATF a few weeks ago in my office about this particular number of a truly manufacturing process of arms crimes and tried criminals who use weapons to commit a crime. I was proud of last year to lead the declaration of unveiled firearms law, which is sensitive, and it is a firmness of the arms safety legislation that enacted the law in the 1980s. We extended it seven years to make sure that no weapon is manufactured or sold at less than 3.7 ounces of metal. She led this effort, and the reason I did is that we do not want to use weapons on the street to commit a crime, however, as I indicated, you look at Washington, DC, only 1.7 % of arms crime convictions lead to prison. That is why you saw the killing rate double in less than a decade. It is an impressive, and this is exactly the reason that the president exceeds the crime in major cities, and as we have seen in California, he is legally authorized to do so.
Margaret Brennan: I want to ask you about something in New York State. A good amount of money from the draft chips law went to New York. On Friday, the White House announced that there will be a change in how the government is dealing with this money that aims to make America independent of the manufacture of Asian computer chips and return everything on the beach, the president wants to buy a 10 % stake in Intel. That company says it will now get taxpayers as a shareholder, who own 10 %. As governor, do you think the government should have royal shares in private companies?
representative. Luller: In general, no, I think that when you look at the previous date, when we had, for example, the bank’s rescue operations, when we have car rescue operations, as you know, in the wake of the market collapse and “2008 the US tax motivation did not get it. Companies like INTEL to manufacture chips.
Margaret Brennan: Congress member, I’m sorry for your cutting. I was told I have to go to a commercial break, so I will leave it there. We will return.
