Ten people were killed and 30 others were injured after a person drove his car into a large crowd in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana’s largest city, local officials said on Wednesday.
Local authorities described the attack early on New Year’s Day in a statement as a “mass casualty incident” that occurred at the intersection of Canal Street and Bourbon Street in the center of the city’s tourist district. The statement added that the injured are receiving treatment in five hospitals in the region.
Bourbon Street is one of the main streets in the city’s historic French Quarter, and is full of bars, restaurants and music venues, attracting local and international visitors.
