Her family said in a statement that Remington died on Sunday “surrounded by her beloved family and dogs and won the life she loved until her last breath.”
“As the first declared president of any intelligence agency in the world, Mrs. Stella penetrated long -term barriers and was a clear example of the importance of diversity in leadership,” said Ken Maccalum, the current general manager of MI5.
Height through the ranks
Remington was born in London in 1935, studied English at Edinburgh University and later worked as an archive. She lived in India with her diplomatic husband in the mid -1960s when she was recruited by MI5, the local security service in Britain, as a part -time writer and writing in her office in New Delhi.
She joined the agency full time after returning to London in 1969 and retreated over the ranks, and overcame the rules that maintained the most famous roles-such as employing running agents-for men only.
