Ennis would go on to successfully defend his IBF belt against David Avanesyan and Karen Chukhadzhian. Six months ago, Ennis became unified world champion when he stopped Imantas Stanionis in the sixth round and won the vacant World Boxing Championship title.
Now 28-year-old Philadelphia native Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) is ready to step up and join the talent-rich junior middleweight division. Ennis is a special fighter who has all the tools. He is a switch hitter who has power in both hands.
In addition to his punching power, Ennis has hand speed, deft footwork, and consistently delivers sharp combinations. On Saturday night, Ennis wants to make a statement, and the statement he wants to make amounts to a brilliant knockout punch.
His opponent, Uisma Lima, is aggressive and used to pressing forward and setting the pace of the fight. Lima has the ability to consistently maintain a high work rate and throw punches in combinations.
For Boots Ennis, the plan is to entertain his hometown fans on Saturday night, then move on to a highly anticipated bout against the hard-hitting Vergil Ortiz Jr. As for Uisma Lima, he travels to Philadelphia to play spoiler.
From a name standpoint, Uisma Lima is little known, but he defeated three undefeated fighters in his backyard. Lima’s goal is to surprise and add Jaron Ennis’ name to that exclusive list.
On Saturday night, 32-year-old Awisma Lima wants to officially introduce himself to the general public. During a recent press conference, Lima issued a stern warning.
“I want to fight all the big names because I think I am a big name,” Lima said. “But people don’t know me because I didn’t get a big promotion. But when I finish this fight, when I finish with Boots, people will know me!”
