SolidddVision Smartglasses, the first true vision correction for people with vision loss due to macular degeneration, will debut at CES 2025.

Macular degeneration is an eye disease that makes it difficult for people to see what is in front of them. While their peripheral vision is intact, their central vision is significantly impaired. Macular degeneration primarily affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. This makes it difficult to see fine details, read, recognize faces, or do things that require clear vision.

The smart glasses technology was developed by Soliddd Corp., an optical technology and vision company in New York City focused on restoring and improving vision for millions of consumers worldwide who suffer from macular degeneration and other low-vision disorders.

Scientifically designed and user-tested, these smart VR glasses are lightweight and look like regular glasses. SolidddVision provides the first true vision correction – and indeed sight restoration for those with vision loss due to macular degeneration.

The smart glasses use Soliddd’s unique, proprietary lens arrays, which resemble a fly’s eye, to project several separate images onto areas of the retina that are not damaged. This allows the brain to naturally build the stereo image (create a 3D image in the brain) and produce one full-field image with good sharpness that looks like a natural scene in focus.

At CES, Soliddd is showing off a headphone beta version of its technology. It will also display a pre-production model of the smart glasses, almost in their final form, as the company prepares for clinical trials and introduction to the market in 2025.

Advanced technology and global patents

Soliddd’s invention has been more than a decade in the making, leveraging its extensive knowledge in 3D technology, a portfolio of 15 additional US and foreign patents (plus more patents pending) and proprietary optics and software including AI technology for computer vision.

SolidddVision smart glasses use unique optics and software to beam multiple discrete, focused views of a parallel light field to all areas of the retina. The brain’s visual cortex automatically constructs a single full-field stereo image with good sharpness from multiple inputs to each eye. Even if some areas of the wearer’s visual field are obscured or out of focus, the excess visual information received in other areas of the retina combines, resulting in the wearer seeing a full-field, well-focused, and bright image.

“Solidddd has invented the first true vision correction for macular degeneration. We can provide sight in areas of the visual field where patients see nothing,” SolidddVision smart glasses are lightweight and easy to integrate into everyday life, Soliddd said in a statement. . Our team is geared toward helping restore and improve vision for the millions of consumers around the world who suffer from vision loss caused by macular degeneration.

The SolidddVision smart glasses breakthrough has been supported by clinicians and scientists including many board-certified ophthalmologists, retina specialists and optometrists.

“I have been able to observe many demonstrations of SolidddVision with patients with a variety of eye disease conditions including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and stroke,” said Georgia Crozier, MD, director of the Center for Vision Rehabilitation at Moore Eye Institute in Pennsylvania. “. statement. “These patients responded positively to the improvement in visual acuity and they all believed it would help them in their daily activities. The enhancement in their reading vision and ease of use was noticeable. This technology will be groundbreaking.”

Scientists at the Lighthouse Guild in New York reviewed data from a 30-person clinical study conducted by Soliddd in people with macular disease. They found the results to be very encouraging for SolidddVision, as it showed an improvement in many participants’ reading ability by 50% or more.

SolidddVision smart glasses address a low vision aid market consisting of more than 20 million Americans, and approximately 200 million people worldwide – and expected to grow – living with disfiguring and even severe vision loss due to macular degeneration.

The company has received numerous awards including MassChallenge Alumni 1street place 2024; HITLAB Breakthrough Challenge, December 2023; Unicorn Cup, World 1street place 2023; and the Digital Hub Health Foundation, HLTH 2024. Going into CES 2025, Soliddd has received the Consumer Technology Association’s Eureka Park Accessibility Award and the Techlicious CES 2025 Editor’s Pick Winner as one of the most innovative and impactful products and technologies that stands out from the crowd. It will be at the Venetian Expo, Eureka Park booth 62037, at CES 2025.

Soliddd has raised $1.5 million in funding to date from investors including Beresford Ventures, Peaksjah OU, Global Capital Group, JMB Macro, angels Trout Moser and Derek Myers (Neoti) and others. The company has been doing this for 15 years and has 12 employees.
