A unique incident occurred during the 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba when a fire broke out in the DJ Booth in the third tier of the ground.
The incident occurred four overs into the second half of the match as the Hobart Hurricanes were batting. As a result, the match was delayed for a few minutes. A man used a fire extinguisher and was seen trying to shut it off.
But his effort was not enough and another fire extinguisher was needed. Fans were immediately evacuated from nearby stands. After some serious efforts, the fire was finally brought under control.

Marnus Labuschagne impresses for Brisbane Heat
Earlier in the day, the Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field first. Brisbane Heat lost host Nathan McSweeney early but skipper Usman Khawaja gave them a hot start at the top.
Khawaja scored 23 off just 9 balls with three fours and a six but was dismissed by Nathan Ellis. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw built a strong partnership and put Brisbane Heat ahead.
They both scored free kicks and went on to put a mark on the scoreboard. Renshaw was dismissed for 40 off just 25 deliveries with 3 fours and two sixes but Labuschagne kept it going. He was equally impressive against both pace and bowling.
Labuschagne was finally caught by Nathan Ellis off his own bowling on the last ball of the innings. He was dismissed for a brilliant 77 off 44 balls with 8 fours and two sixes. Tom Allsop also played a key role in the demolition to lift Brisbane Heat to 201-6 in 20 overs.
Hobart’s tornadoes began flying
The Hobart Hurricanes got off to a quick start in responding. Opening pair Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen gave their side a devastating start and were not even bothered by the slight delay in play caused by the fire.
Owen was more aggressive as he smashed a 20-ball 40 with 1 four and 6 sixes. But he was dismissed by Brisbane Heat left-arm seamer Spencer Johnson. Charlie Wakem reached third but leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson had him stumped for a duck.
Nikhil Choudhary arrived next and struck up a good partnership with opener Caleb Jewell. Choudhury and Goel but were batting well and the Hobart Hurricanes were on their way to chasing a terrible result. They needed 59 runs in the last six overs with eight wickets in hand.
