Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal is in the news for calling out Havintha, a hair care brand on Shark Tank India Season 4. Bharat Khatri, founder of hair care brand Havintha, claimed that they produced only natural products that help in stopping hair loss. .
He sought INR 50 lakh for a 2 per cent stake in his company. The boat brand’s logo left its chief marketing officer Aman Gupta puzzled, who thought the logo resembled a hemp leaf.
During his presentation, Khatri said that Haventha sells different types of hair care products. He then claimed that he had built his business on debt of just INR 22,000 against his credit card and that he had made sales of INR 5 crore in the previous financial year.
When everything seemed to be going well for the archer, Mittal questioned his credentials and the science behind his products. Later, the founder admitted that he did not have a qualification in Ayurveda but had an AYUSH license.
Needless to say, the pitch left netizens in awe of Mittal as they supported him as he called the brand ‘quackery’.
“Anupam is the only person who advocates such quackery in Ayurveda. Some of these people act like simpletons while showing TRP. He has a manufacturing facility that will require huge investments as well as various licenses and claims that he does not know the ingredients and system in the label,” said a user.
Another user said: “Indians buy anything in the name of natural products, ayurveda and all that. I don’t doubt his sales or numbers, but Anupam’s comments were accurate and he should have had some support behind his claim.”
“He was not the real founder of havintha, what I think was just a marketing ploy used by the havintha founders in order to promote their product all over the world (as were D2C products),” a third user noted.
“Ayurveda is a scam, most of their products are not science, it’s dark science, 90% of it doesn’t work, 10% of it has truth but if you live long enough you can at least know some useful local herbs etc. I always ‘stay away from This bullshit,” a fourth user commented.
During the pitch, Kunal Bahl, co-founder of Snapdeal, said he believed Khatri and what he was doing. Although he refused to invest in the business, Bahl asked Bharat to contact him when he converted Haventha into a private limited company.
After the founder left, Mittal and Bahl discussed the product and the entrepreneur.
