to cut Season 2 has finally arrived and… We cannot be silent about it. That we have more than two months of new episodes on the way is certainly one of the best things that a very bad year of 2025 has offered so far, and things started off with a bang at the premiere. We get to spend all kinds of time with the Enies On the cut Lomon floor And I saw some compelling new mysteries unfold.
last month, We spoke with the showrunner Dan Erickson for the episode Because We Knew you do I want to know what he had to say about some things. Here are the spoilers we originally cut from Our full interview.
Germain Lussier, io9: I was shocked when Hailey lied about what she saw as her suit and then it kind of raised a lot of questions about who this person is, what they want, etc. What is the season portion size? So where did the idea come from?
Dan Erickson: Well, it’s a very big part of it. The thing we talked about in this scene is, is each character going to be honest and how honest will they be? We talked about, “Will Hailey tell the truth?” or “Are you hiding that?” I think even if nothing else, Hailey would be ashamed of what she’s learned. So there is definitely a reason why each character wants to be dishonest with others. Mark too. I think there’s some question of does he want Haley to know this thing that he knows, or will he feel like he needs to take his time to acknowledge that and bring that to her? So we had that conversation with each of the three personalities who made their way to the top.

io9: Another big surprise is Miss Huang, who is the most interesting and strange character. What can you tell me about her?
Ericsson: Yes, there was always something interesting about the idea of having a child in the role, and there’s a big question why? Why would Lomon do that? What is this? What are the larger implications of this? But I think her presence really sheds light on the characters. I mean they definitely feel weird about her presence because the fact that she’s this kid (and) she has this annoying quality to her where it’s hard to hate a kid, you know? But at the same time, she’s taking on this administrative role, and she’s also older than them, at least empirically, because each of them has only had two years to live at most, and even that means only eight hours a day. It was a very strange power dynamic that you can only get on this show. And we were lucky to find an actor who could really play the smiling company and then suddenly that passes too and you see this strange darkness underneath. Thus, in a way, she embodies Lomon. It’s both of those things at once.
io9: Another great development this season is the “Outdoor Family Visiting Pavilion”. How important is this season and, again, where did this idea come from?
Ericsson: The thing about Lumon and part of their evil brilliance is that they will stimulate what is most important to you. And for Dylan in the first season, he was very happy with this kind of artificial meaning of pencil erasers and finger traps and these little trophies that represented achievement. The moment he discovers he has a family, the fingertrap becomes just a fingertrap. Suddenly, it completely reshapes his sense of importance in life. So what will Lomon do? They will incentivize it. They’ll tell him that you can see your wife if you get your work done and kind of commit because that’s the most important thing to him. He is willing to do this even at the expense of his working family. This is the predicament he finds himself in.
The first episode of to cut Season 2 is now available on Apple TV+. New episodes drop every Friday.
