setback! – Bionic OldGuy

By last Tuesday, my sciatica symptoms started to improve a lot, so I became a bit confident. I went on a 90-minute ride, and for about 50 minutes I rode upright rather than lying down, including a fair amount of standing on the pedals. Everything was great. Then when I got home my sciatica had worsened dramatically, pretty much from day one. My doctor had me have a virtual appointment, prescribed anti-inflammatories, rest (abstaining from almost all exercise except stretching, for a week), and ice. I also scheduled a lumbar x-ray to rule out sciatica in my spine, and a follow-up with the new orthopedic doctor my GP found for me.

Here is a quote from when the first exacerbation occurred two weeks ago: “I think the lesson learned from this is that I should have taken it easier and made sure I made a full recovery after my injury on September 18. Instead, once I started to feel better, I felt smug and plunged back into long, hard workouts, forgetting that it takes longer for us older people to heal.“It’s amazing how quickly I forgot about this once I started feeling better. Exercise is like therapy for me, ‘meditation on the move’. But that only takes about 30 easy minutes. So, this time once I’m allowed to, I will stick to 30 minutes a day for at least a month or my symptoms will go away Completely gold.
