Saudi Arabia qualified to beat Indonesia 3-2 in its first match in the fourth round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Six Asian teams have already qualified for next year’s finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with two more nominated this month.
Two groups of three teams will play in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and the group winners will qualify for the finals.
Indonesia, coached by Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert, took a surprise lead in Jeddah through a Kevin Dix penalty.
Saudi Arabia equalized through Saleh Abu Al-Shamat and Firas Al-Braikan from a penalty kick. Al Burikan scored the second goal, and while Dix’ second penalty kick gave Indonesia hope, the hosts secured a decisive victory.
In Qatar, the hosts drew 0-0 with Oman to leave their group tight.
